How to Compost
An Easy Guide to Composting your Nobag
Compost in 4 Easy Steps
-
Combine Green and Brown.
Select a dry, shady spot to place your compost bin or pile. Combine your (wet) green and (dry) brown materials.
Green Materials include: plant and grass trimmings, kitchen scraps, coffee grounds, animal manures. Brown materials include: fallen leaves, dried plants, hay and straw, wood shavings. For best results, start building your compost pile by mixing three parts brown materials with one part green material.
-
Water Compost Pile.
Sprinkle water over the compost pile regularly so it has the consistency of a damp sponge. Don't add too much water or the microorganisms in your compost pile will become waterlogged and drown. If this happens, your pile will rot instead of compost.
-
Stir it.
During the growing season, you should provide the compost pile with oxygen by turning it once a week. Stirring the compost pile will help it cook faster and prevents materials from becoming matted down and developing an odor. At this point, the brown and green layers have served their purpose so it's ok to stir thoroughly and intermix the two materials.
-
Add Nobag.
Cut Nobag in pieces no longer than 10 inches and insert into compost. Make sure you are inserting our home-compostable materials and not our biodegradable options. After inserted, wait 3-6 months and watch it disappear!
