In recent years, living in a sustainable way has been seen more as an act of personal care, beyond being seen as an act of care for the environment. Many times we forget that chemicals and preservatives not only affect the planet earth, but also, they affect our human bodies even more quickly and leaving us more short-term consequences that affect us individually.

We also often have the idea that leading a sustainable life entails high expenses that not the entire population is capable of covering, therefore, in this article we want to show you that leading a sustainable life can be even become more affordable and we’ll also give you some tips that will help you save money, and above all: take care of your health by making your body free of chemicals and other artificial substances.

1. Avoid buying clothes in fast fashion stores. You can also generate income and buy more clothes through applications like Go Trendier, or use vintage and pre-owned shops like Portelo and The Real Real.

2. Try to give away things that are in good condition that you no longer use instead of throwing them away.

3. Wash your clothes in cold water. Also try to dry them by hanging them outdoors rather than using a heat dryer - this will take better care of the fabric and make them last much longer.

4. Reduce your portions of meat consumption and replace them with vegetables: boiled or chopped. Over time, you can even assign days of the week to not eating meat. Also, chop your fruits and vegetables into cubes and freeze them, this will extend their life and you can use them when you need them.

5. Switch to zero-waste straws so you can re-use them instead of constantly purchasing them at the supermarket.

6. Replace makeup remover pads and razors with reusable items.

7. Use loofahs to bathe or wash your dishes.

8. Grate the bar soap with a cheese grater and use it as a laundry detergent.

9. Replace your plastic containers with glass containers. Limit yourself to using a few plastic containers only to carry your lunch to work or school.

10. Replace liquid detergent with powdered soap to wash your dishes.

11. Unplug cables at home when you're not using them.

12. Make a weekly plan of how much money you will designate for your meals, entertainment and other personal expenses.

13. Reuse cloth bags instead of plastic bags for shopping and carrying things.

The world and the events that are happening in it have changed, so the way we live and above all, the way we consume, must also change. Taking advantage (not exploiting) the natural resources that we have available will make us do a favor to our planet earth, and at the same time we do it to our pocket, allowing us to live together in a more lasting way!
